Angela Risius
Licensed Master Social Worker
(he/him, they/them)
Hi, I’m Angela Risius. I specialize in Trauma & C-PTSD & Dissociation, Interpersonal & Institutional Abuse, Depression, Insomnia, Neurodivergence, Non-Traditional Relationship & Family problems such as Polyamory & LGBTQ+, Self-esteem, and Grief.
I help adults and couples overcome issues with trauma, interpersonal & institutional abuse, depression, self-esteem, grief, and relationship & family problems from an anti-oppressive, neurodiverse perspective.
How I Can Help
My therapy style is informed by Eclectic Psychotherapy (EP), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Brainspotting, Rational Emotive Behavioral (REBT), CBT-I, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) & the Gottman Method.
I am a mid-transition non-binary therapist who believes in the “activism cure” for returning power, peace, and agency to those who had it abruptly taken from them… by creating meaning, purpose, and beauty from all that still remains. We will search for creative methods of integration — understanding perplexing events through clearing our lens together or figuring out which perspective and narrative gives you the most clarity, without the burden of unnecessary labels from society dictating what your identity should be at the expense of who you really are.
My goal is to provide a space where you can be fully yourself until you trust that you will default feel understood in our sessions. My belief that growth is possible for everyone after radical acceptance of oneself and one’s circumstances motivates me to reflect upon the factors behind any unmet expectations you might have of yourself, life, or our sessions. Too often do the disillusioned give up when relief may be just around the corner; my hope is to provide you the emotional tools needed to create your own hope after figuring out which values are truly yours instead of someone else’s.
I am influenced by humanism, absurdism, and stoicism as well as “Man’s Search for Meaning” and “Transcend: The New Science of Self-Actualization.” I plan on specializing in C-PTSD and dissociation, including related conditions such as gender dysphoria, insomnia, and complicated grief. My anti-oppressive restorative justice values are my north star, and I am honored to accompany you in discovering yours, no matter what it may be, no matter how your story unfolds.
I believe that we are all in one way or another a “victim of circumstance,” and this means with the right circumstances we can all do something about it as well. Feel free to ask for my preferred name if you want to give me some gender euphoria, but no need to worry about making name or pronoun mistakes; I will respond to all of them!
