Kyle Brown

Licensed Clinical Social Worker

Hi I’m Kyle, an EMDR therapist at Balanced Mind of New York. In regards to my social locations:  My pronouns are they/them. I identify as Black, queer, non-binary, neurodivergent, able-bodied, male presenting, Californian native, a swimmer, middle class, and as someone who grew up with a single mother and a community of support. These identities heavily influence how I see and relate to the world.

Typically in the 1st session, I try my best to invite clients to share their social locations, visible or not, as it can be helpful to recognize similarities and differences in experiences, helpful with treatment planning by providing cultural sensitivity, and helpful in understanding one’s unique experience in this world.

I specialize in guiding adults and couples through life’s challenges using personalized, evidence-based and evidence-supported approaches such as EMDR, CBT, mindfulness, and Somatic Experiencing.

How I Can Help

Kyle brings a deep belief in the power of empathy and connection to transform lives—a philosophy that has guided his work since his early research on empathy in media representation. As an EMDR Therapist at Balanced Mind of New York, Kyle specializes in helping adults and couples navigate life’s most challenging moments through evidence-based approaches that honor each client’s unique story and strengths. Kyle’s work centers on trauma recovery, anxiety, depression, grief, and relationship healing, with particular expertise supporting LGBTQ+ individuals and those processing racial trauma. Kyle understands that healing happens differently for everyone, which is why they integrate multiple therapeutic approaches including, but not limited to EMDR, Somatic Experiencing, CBT, and mindfulness—tailored to what feels most supportive for each client. Kyle is passionate about EMDR therapy and has pursued advanced training not only in individual trauma work but also in elevating couples therapy through EMDR techniques. This allows Kyle to help partners heal together while addressing individual wounds. Kyle’s training in Somatic Experiencing adds another dimension, helping clients reconnect with their body’s wisdom in the healing process. Whether clients are working through past trauma, navigating identity exploration, struggling with relationship dynamics, or simply feeling stuck, Kyle approaches therapeutic work as a collaborative partnership. They believe clients are the experts of their own experience—Kyle is there to walk alongside clients with curiosity, care, and evidence-based tools that can help them build the life they want. Kyle’s therapeutic style is grounded in compassion and cultural awareness, informed by his extensive training from institutions like Columbia University, Somatic Experiencing International, the Medical University of South Carolina, and EMDRIA-approved programs. Kyle creates a space where clients feel truly seen, supported, and empowered to move toward healing at each client’s own pace.
